Your data
Everything Burrow stores lives in one folder on your computer. Here is where it is, and what is encrypted.
Where it lives
| System | Folder |
|---|
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/Burrow Client/ |
| Linux | ~/.config/Burrow Client/ |
What’s in it
| File | Contents | Encrypted |
|---|
vault.enc | Passwords, private keys, key passphrases, sync keys | Yes |
profiles.json | Hosts: labels, addresses, user names, groups, notes | No |
keys.json | Public keys and fingerprints | No |
snippets.json | Saved commands | No |
known_hosts.json | Trusted server fingerprints | No |
settings.json | Appearance, auto-lock and other settings | No |
sync.json | Sync server address and user name | No |
The plain files are ordinary JSON, so you can read them, back them up or put them under version control.
Move to a new machine
Copy the whole folder to the new machine, into the folder for its system from the table above.
If you use sync, you can also just log in on the new machine. See Sync between devices.
Damaged files
If a file gets damaged, Burrow tells you on startup and offers to reset it. The broken file is kept next to it as a backup.
